The LGH Foundation wrote a one-page article on Camp Kerry in their latest "Well into the Future" magazine. This magazine goes out to previous LGHF donors; most of whom live on the North Shore.
IT’S NOT EASY LOSING THE ONES WE LOVE. YOUNG FAMILIES, especially, often find it difficult to cope when suddenly faced with the death of a parent or child. It’s here, in helping families deal with their grief, that a new program called Camp Kerry has proven its tremendous worth. Camp Kerry is a North Shore program that brings bereaved families together in a supportive environment to grieve, remember and celebrate the memory of a loved one. Designed as a healing retreat, the camp allows families to participate in therapeutic and recreational activities, as well as connect with other parents and children who have gone through similar experiences. Dr. Heather Mohan, Bereavement Coordinator and Music Therapist for Lions Gate Hospital’s (LGH) Palliative Care Program, conceived the idea for this special camp, and the desire to honour the memory of a brave young woman – Kerry Kirstiuk – provided both the inspiration and the funds to make it happen.
