Tuesday, June 17, 08: A special letter from one of our participating families

Sue, Sarah and Amy MacPherson sent us this wonderful letter about their Camp Kerry experiences...

To Heather and all your awesome volunteers:

Thank-you for organizing a weekend retreat at Camp Kerry for families like ours. My husband of 22 years died in January 2007. My girls, who were 7 and 13 years old at the time, and I were doing everything we could to carry on. But something was missing ... So, we went to Camp Kerry and met other families who had lost a loved one. We talked, we laughed and we ate great meals together. There were so many choices of different activities that we could be involved in: swimming, yoga, hiking, music, art and more! The weekend was so relaxing, not spa-like, but better in that we made some very special friends. The memories of what this weekend did for us will last forever.

We all have the choice in life when we lose a special loved one to die grieving or to live everyday to its’ fullest. Being at Camp Kerry I realized I could not hurry the grieving process but with the help of others it was going to be easier. To have shared with other families and followed their progress has been very helpful and this weekend was where we all really began to feel like living again. Camp Kerry was what was missing.

Sue, Sarah and Amy MacPherson
